"You are you and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, it's
beautiful."
Back in the psychedelic '60s when he coined that phrase, Frederick
Perl was talking about free love, not networking. But he wasn't as
far out as you might think.
Most people think that the hippie counterculture sprang up as a
political movement to oppose "the establishment." A more likely
explanation is that tens of millions of young people discovered
that they had a few common interests. (Remember sex, drugs and rock
and roll? Sure you do.) So they started to network. And pretty
soon, if your hair was a certain length and if your pants were way
too small at the waist and way too big at the ankle, you could go
anywhere in the country and get some, um, referrals.
In the decades since then, our hair and clothes may have changed,
but not our desire to network.

We live branding every day, which means we have to be careful so
that our own brand isn't like the shoemaker's children-barefoot.
Luckily, we know that brands are like sharks-they keep moving or
they die. We prefer to keep moving. Which is why we've re-thought,
re-designed, and re-developed our logo, business cards and website
to do what all power brands do-inspire trust and attract new
business.
